Preston Council Empty Buildings Taskforce

In response to increasing concerns about safety and the presence of empty and derelict buildings in the city centre, the Council has established a dedicated Task Force to tackle these issues directly. Reporting is key to an effective intervention to prevent further access and the anti-social behaviour which can accompany entry into and climbing on buildings.

The regular checks Preston City Council carry out on the buildings are key to this as well as working in partnership with local activists Preserving Preston’s Heritage Group who are encouraging anyone to report unusual, suspicious or anti-social behaviour in and around empty buildings.

This can include windows that have been damaged or boarding removed, even though the people who caused damage may have left the building.

Alison Hatton is the Community Safety Manager and part of the empty buildings taskforce at Preston City Council. To report anti-social behaviour her Community Safety Team email them at publicspaces@preston.gov.uk

Group Skills Audit

We are looking to better understand the skills we have in the group and what professional services we can each contribute in the group taking on and supporting heritage locally. 

This is a call out to our members. Do you have any skills that might be useful for Preserving Preston’s Heritage, in fact, sooner rather than later?! Are you maybe an architect, a planner, a surveyor, a tradesperson, a historian, an educator, an archivist, a creative or simply someone who might be willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in working on a project.
